전나환 작가는 성소수자로서의 정체성을 작업에 접목하며, 회화와 그래픽을 통해 퀴어 커뮤니티와 인권 문제를 다뤄왔다. 작가의 작품에는 퀴어 청소년, 드래그 문화, COVID-19 시기 클럽 문화 등 구체적이고 다양한 퀴어 커뮤니티 구성원들의 존재와 삶이 담겨 있다. 특히 작품 〈가브리엘과 녹색사과>는 2017년 한국인권위원회 건물 앞에서 진행된 HIV 보균자의 의료접 근권을 요구하는 시위에 참여했을 때, 에이즈 합병증으로 시력 장애가 온 활동가 윤가브리엘과의 만남 후 그린 작품이다. 이처럼 그림 속 인물들은 실제로 작가가 만난 퀴어이자, 퀴어링을 수행하는 존재들로, 편견에 맞서 소수자들과 연대했던 작가의 생전 시간을 엿보게 한다. 더불어 이러한 실존 인물들의 등장은 퀴어를 일반화 하거나 현실과 동떨어진 존재로 여기길 거부하는 작가의 의지가 반영되어 있기도 하다. 그 누구와도 눈을 마주치지 않지만, 덤덤하면서도 결연한 표정으로 형형색색의 색들을 품은 인물 들은 정체성의 다채로움을 상상하게 한다.

Jeon Nahwan incorporates their LGBTQ+ identity into their practice, addressing queer communities and human rights issues through painting and graphic work. Their works depict the lives and existence of diverse members of queer communities, including queer youth, drag culture, and club culture during the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, Gabriel and green apple (2018) was created after Jeon met activist Yoon Gabriel, who had developed a visual impairment due to AIDS-related complications, during a protest held in front of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea to demand medical access for people living with HIV. The figures in Jeon's paintings are individuals the artist personally encountered-those who actively engage in queering-offering a glimpse into Jeon's life spent in solidarity with marginalized communities.The appearance of these real-life figures also reflects the artist's refusal to generalize queer experiences or portray them as detached from reality. Though the figures do not make eye contact, their calm yet resolute expressions, imbued with vivid colors, evoke the multiplicity and richness of queer identities.
