나환 아카이브(Nahwan Archive)는 고(故) 전나환 미술가의 파트너이자 동료인 김형주 영화감독이 운영하고 있는 기록 보존 플랫폼이다. 전나환 작가는 총 250여 점의 캔버스 페인팅 외에 방대한 양의 노트와 스케치북에 그린 핸드 드로잉과 습작, 컴퓨터와 태블릿 등에 작업한 디지털 드로잉, 수많은 작가노트, 일기, 메모, 아포리즘, 창작 엽편소설 등을 미발표 상태로 남겨두었다. 나환 아카이브는 전나환 작가의 고향인 광주와 그가 공부했던 일본 도쿄, 그리고 주로 활동했던 서울 문래동 작업실 등에 보관되어 있던 자료들을 수집하고 정리하며, 전나환 작가가 한국 미술계에 남긴 유산을 체계적으로 보존하고 널리 알리고자 한다.
그 일환으로 사후 전나환 작가의 작업을 선보이는 개인전과 단체전 등의 전시에 협력해 왔으며, 2022년에는 작가의 과거 전시에 대한 도록 <앵콜>과 <범람하고 확장하는 Q>를 출간했다.
나환 아카이브는 한국 미술의 다양성과 포용의 가치를 추구하며, 전나환 작가의 소중한 발자취에 공감하는 동료 미술가 및 예술가, 시각 예술 연구자 및 기획자 등과의 네트워킹과 협력에 늘 열려있다.
The Nahwan Archive, overseen by the late artist Jeon Nahwan’s close partner, collaborator and filmmaker Kim Hyoungju, serves as a comprehensive document preservation platform for the artist’s legacy. Apart from a collection of 250 canvas paintings, Jeon Nahwan left a vast array of hand-drawn sketches, digital artwork created on computers and tablets, numerous writings such as artist notes, diaries, memos, aphorisms, and unpublished fictional short stories. The Nahwan Archive systematically preserves and amplifies the artist's profound influence on the Korean art scene. The materials are thoughtfully gathered and organized from various locations significant to Jeon Nahwan’s life and career, including his hometown of Gwangju in Korea, Tokyo in Japan where he studied, and his studio in Munrae-dong, Seoul, where he primarily worked.
As part of its mission, the Archive actively collaborates on exhibitions, both solo and group showcases, that celebrate Jeon Nahwan's artistic journey after his passing. It has also published exhibition books, such as "Encore" and "Flooding, Expanding Q," which chronicle the artist's previous shows.
Promoting the diversity and inclusion of visual art in Korea, the Nahwan Archive warmly welcomes connections and collaborations with visual art researchers, critics, curators, scholars, and fellow artists who resonate with Jeon Nahwan's invaluable artistic journey.
